For the second time in two seasons following their return to National League Conference East, Bromley & Beckenham Ladies 1st Team finished an albeit truncated season in fourth place. Having welcomed several new players to the squad at the start of the season, the ambition of the squad was to challenge for promotion to National League Division One South, an aspiration that will firmly form the plans of the team for the forthcoming 2021/22 season.
The current squad is competitive, with +20 players competing for a match-day place, consisting of home-grown talent, players with National League experience as well as experience from overseas.
The squad trains twice a week – Monday and Wednesday – at Langley Park School for Girls. Sessions are run by Mark Robinson, an England Hockey Level 3 / ACP coach who is now in his fourth season at the club, whilst our keepers benefit from the regular presence of specialist training from Fortitude. In addition to the twice-weekly training sessions delivered on the pitch, as many games as is possible are filmed with every player receiving a dedicated video package via Nacsport & Hudl with feedback to help their own performance and development over the course of the season. The squad also benefits from a fitness programme put together by Strength and Conditioning coach Billy Green.
The squad’s focus and commitment on the pitch is matched by a desire to have fun as a group off it with various well-attended social events taking place at the club’s Beckenham Sports Club base, a few minutes’ drive from the pitch.
Despite the disappointment associated with the 2020/21 season, planning is already underway to ensure that the 2021/22 season is a successful one. An extensive pre-season programme is already being drawn up with fitness training due to start in mid-July ahead of a busy pre-season fixture list, due to 'push back' at the end of August.
Whilst the squad remains competitive and ambitious we are always on the lookout for players who believe they can add to the ethos that we have at the club and the ability that we have within the squad.
